The Xisha Islands is one of the four major islands in the South China Sea and the largest archipelago in the South China Sea. Located in the central part of the tropics, the long sunshine time most of the year is very suitable for the construction of photovoltaic power plants. In order to meet the needs of electricity and water for production and living on the island, Sansha municipal government of Hainan province has started to build an independent photovoltaic smart microgrid project on the island since 2013. in order to improve and solve the problem of electricity and water for military and civilians on the island and improve the living conditions on the island, the construction scale will be expanded to 2MW in 2020.
